Hershey Youth Lacrosse - Boys Program Overview
For 2020, Hershey Youth Lacrosse competitive teams will be competing in the Mid Penn League. Practice days/times for each team will be relatively consistent throughout the entire season.
Indoor practices will begin in February and then transition outside in March. Games will begin at the start of April and the season will wrap-up in May. Outdoor practices and home games will be held at HHS, Founders Field and Palmdale Park.
Age group eligibility is determined by the athlete’s age as of August 31st, 2020. For example, an athlete born in August of 2012 would be eligible for 10U play for the 2021 season while an athlete born in September of 2012 would be eligible for 8U play.
In addition to the practices/games outlined below, some or all of the boys’ competitive teams may have the opportunity to participate in additional play days or tournaments throughout the season.
Little Laxers Team – Our Little Laxers program is as a great introduction to playing and loving lacrosse for Kindergarteners & First Graders. At this age, your kids will use mini-sticks and soft balls as they get used to the skills and motions of the sport. With a focus on FUN and learning fundamentals, each practice will feature drills and games that emphasize lacrosse basics. Each child will receive a FREE new mini-lacrosse stick, ball, and a team shirt during their first year with the program!
Little Laxers usually play once per week - last year it was Sunday afternoons. There are no competitive games at this level.
Boys 8U – Given our huge growth in this age group, Hershey Lacrosse is fielding one or more competitive teams at the 8U level. 8U will generally practice twice per week with approx. 6 games on Saturdays. This team will also have the option to participate in the Mid Penn Tournament at the end of the season.
Mid Penn 8U lacrosse focuses on continued skill development, introducing team play, and learning to love the game. In turn, this age group will practice and play games with soft lax balls, sticks, gloves, and mouth guards only. Games are played 4v4 without a goalie on smaller fields and allow for on-field coaching.
Age Eligibility: September 2012 – August 2015
Boys 10U – 10U will generally practice twice per week with approx. 12 games occurring on Saturdays. Game days will usually consist of a 3-team round robin (each team plays 2 games) to minimize travel days. This team will also participate in the season ending Mid Penn Tournament.
Building upon the development of our 8U program, 10U lacrosse focuses on developing more advanced skills and introduces positional play and rules in a full-game format. At this level, we’ll play 6v6 in full-equipment with goalies on a US Lacrosse approved 10u short field. This smaller playing space increases players’ opportunities to be involved in the play and handle the ball. Based on registration numbers, we may field more than one 10U team to ensure playing time for each athelete.
Age Eligibility: September 2010 – August 2012
Boys 12U – 12U will generally practice twice per week with approx. 12 games occurring on Saturdays. Game days will usually consist of a 3-team round robin (each team plays 2 games) to minimize travel days. This team will also participate in the season ending MidPenn Tournament.
Our 12U lacrosse program plays traditional 10v10 lacrosse on a full-field. At this level, we’ll be focusing on continued skill growth, increased team play in a full-field setting, and developing their “lacrosse Intelligence”.
Age Eligibility: September 2008 – August 2010
Boys 14U – 14U will usually practice twice per week with approx. 12 games occurring on Saturdays. Game days will generally consist of a 3-team round robin (each team plays 2 games) to minimize travel days. This team will also participate in the season ending MidPenn Tournament.
Our 15/14U lacrosse program plays traditional 10v10 lacrosse on a full-field. Our dynamic coaching staff will strive to add next-level game play while continuing to progress each athlete’s technique as we prepare them for the jump to high-school lax.
